HEALTHCARE ::
Radiant
What
Radiant is an app that helps users maintain healthy vitamin D levels throughout the year.
Why
People living in countries with limited sunlight, need a way to maintain their vitamin D so that they don't suffer from a deficiency.
How
The app provides users with personalized vitamin D intake recommendations, a simple logging, tracking and scheduling system all wrapped up in a fun and engaging experience.
Research
Surveys and in-person interviews were carried out to understand the frustrations people face with tracking their health and regulating their vitamin D.
: :
Findings / 1
Most participants had a busy schedule and found it difficult to combine tracking specific health areas and their daily routine.
Findings / 2
Constantly logging data was very frustrating for most participants and they had the tendency to drop-off apps after a while.
Findings / 3
Participants wanted services tailor-made to their needs and schedule instead of one-size fits all solutions.
Findings / 4
Most participants felt their health information is inaccessible because they don't understand some of the medical terminology.
Findings / 5
For most participants, vitamin D is very important but they felt there isn't enough information available about it's sources, benefits and effects.
Findings / 6
Even though some participants are aware of the benefits of vitamin D, they don't actively do anything to maintain their levels.
Persona
Three main user archetypes were derived from research data and they served as a reference point and anchor throughout the development phase of the project.

Design Process
Low-fidelity wireframes were developed to explore multiple solution paths. After selecting a promising direction, usability tests were conducted with mid and low fidelity versions of the app. The results helped to understand, refine and improve the flow and experience of users while using the app.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE /
Usability Testing
Testing was carried out on low fidelity and high fidelity versions of the app but the main challenge was that some features tested poorly in the low fidelity tests, particularly the avatar. This created uncertainty around the viability of the feature. After addressing the issues, the high fidelity testing returned very positive results.
: :
Design System
To establish a coherent visual language, a brand guide, UI kit and design pattern were developed to serve as the building blocks for organizing elements, information and features within the app
: :
UI Design
The UI draws inspiration from the Sun — nature’s primary source of vitamin D. Vibrant gradients and glowing elements not only reinforce the theme but also help guide the user’s attention to key information and actions, making the experience both engaging and intuitive.

Role
This project was developed as part of a Product design course. I was responsible for developing the entire user experience from start to finish under the guidance of Antje Eichhorn and Michael Morales.

Takeaway
Most users wanted to know in more detail how the app worked but also got overwhelmed by feature explanations. It was important to try to find a balance between form, function and information.
Next Steps
Testing will be carried out to focus more on specific areas and performance goals. This will allow existing features to be optimized, provide a better user experience and more efficient results.
